Associate Professor, Department of Community Health Sciences
&
Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, UCLA Fielding School of Public Health

As a medical sociologist, I integrate traditional sociological theories with perspectives from public health, social psychology, medicine, and the biological sciences to examine the social, psychological, and biological (i.e., biopsychosocial) pathways that contribute to the health and longevity of Black Americans.

About Me

My long-term career goal is to serve as a public health leader whose transdisciplinary research elucidates the biopsychosocial pathways to health among Black Americans and informs effective and culturally-relevant community-based interventions to enhance outcomes among this population.

I received a BS in Psychology (Minors: Chemistry, Sociology) from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2010. As a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Health Policy Fellow, I later earned an MA and PhD in Sociology from Vanderbilt University and a Certificate in Health Policy from Meharry Medical College in 2015.
